There’s only 2 more Weekly gm’s until 2023. Are you ready, anon?
This Week with ETH SD
1. This Thurs.: Quick & Easy Building on Scaffold-ETH with Kevin Jones
Ready those laptops, ETH SD family!
While the community showed up with their hardware hats on last week for FOAM Meetup #3, we’re exploring the other side of the coin this Thursday and getting to build on Ethereum. ETH SD will be hosting Kevin Jones (Shutterblock.eth) of Scaffold-ETH and Buidl Guidl on Dec. 15.
Buidl Guidl is a curated group of Ethereum builders creating products, prototypes, and tutorials to enrich the web3 ecosystem. Scaffold-ETH allows for rapid application development on Ethereum by providing ready-to-go infrastructure and tooling for devs. Let us know if you have any questions for Kevin in the developers channel of the ETH SD Discord.
Join us at the ETH SD Clubhouse (345 15th St., San Diego, CA 92101) from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Register on Luma today!
2. Alchemy Bootcamp: Interviews Complete, Acceptances Inbound
We want to thank every applicant and interview attendee for their time and interest in our 7-week Ethereum Development Bootcamp with Alchemy University! The cohort will kick off on Sat., Jan. 7 and will host 12 students. There are so many bright and inquisitive members of this community, and the team enjoyed speaking with each and every one of you that interviewed.
For applicants with previous programming experience, expect to hear back this week. For those without previous programming experience, acceptances will be announced after completing Alchemy University’s Javascript Fundamentals and a brief follow-up interview (schedule those with this Calendly link). The course length is listed as 3 weeks, but could be completed sooner than that depending on timing. If you need assistance with the material, jump in ETH SD Discord to get some help from your peers!
For more info on our 7-week cohort with Alchemy, reach out to the ETH SD team or check out this informational doc.

Last Week in Crypto
1. Polygon’s Big Adoption Push: Starbucks Odyssey
Props to Polygon. They’ve managed to integrate exciting and useful blockchain tech with something as ubiquitous and essential as coffee. Of the massive amount of people in the world who’ve yet to be onboarded into the Ethereum ecosystem, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say a lot of them drink coffee or have some familiarity with industry giant Starbucks.
Similar to other retail loyalty apps, users accumulate points for purchases, receive access to exclusive promotions, and more.
While reward points are no reinvention of the wheel, introducing coffee drinkers in Starbucks’ more than 33,000 stores across 80 plus countries to fun and meaningful crypto experiences is something nice to wake up to.
2. NGMI: Crypto Media Outlet, “The Block”, Secretly SBF-Backed
Don’t trust, verify.
Though this timeless phrase initially referred to blockchain transactions, maybe blockchain media outlets were being discussed here as well. Last week, Axios reported that CEO of The Block, Michael McCaffrey, received millions in loans from Alameda Research.
Since April 2021, The Block has been 100% employee-owned, with McCaffrey owning a majority stake. Nodes don’t just need decentralization, news does too.
3. Coinbase Stock ATL
Looking for other signals indicative of the mainstream economic and societal stance on crypto, centralized finance and government regulators can provide insight. Ironically in bear-ish times like these, such groups maintain a micro-focus on $ETH’s price, while the builders keep on building.
Despite remaining intact from the recent exchange fallout, Coinbase’s stock (COIN) had reached it’s lowest price yet today, at $39.65. Additionally, CEO Brain Armstrong said last week that the exchange’s revenue this year will be 50% or less than 2021.
We’ll keep you posted every Monday on what’s happening in the space. Follow @ETHSanDiego on Twitter or visit ethsd.org for info on events, educational content, and more!
See you next week,
